Well-Child Visits (Check-Ups)
Regular check-ups are one of the best things you can do for your child’s health, even when they’re feeling great. These visits help us track your child’s growth, keep vaccines up to date, and catch anything early. We follow the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommended schedule.
What Happens at a Check-Up?
Every well-child visit includes:
- Growth tracking – height, weight, head circumference (for younger children), and BMI (age 3+)
- Cardiovascular check – listening to breathing and checking heart health
- Physical exam – eyes, ears, nose, throat, heart, lungs, abdomen, skin, muscle strength, and more
- Vaccine review – we’ll let you know what’s due and discuss any questions you have
- Development and school check-in – how your child is growing, learning, and doing socially and academically
- School or sports forms – if any forms are due at the visit, we can fill those out
- Age-appropriate guidance – nutrition, safety, mental health, drug and alcohol-related questions, and what to expect next
- Chronic condition management – refills and check-ins for chronic conditions like asthma, allergies, eczema or acne
- Family concerns – this is your time, too. Bring your questions!
For teens: We’ll spend part of the visit one-on-one with your teen. This gives them space to ask questions privately and helps us build a trusting relationship with them, including conversations about mental health, relationships, and substance use.
A Note on Billing
Insurance coverage for well-child visits varies by plan. If your visit includes discussion of a separate concern (like chronic headaches, stomach pain, or a behavioral issue), that may be billed differently than the routine well-child exam and may not be fully covered.
We always recommend checking with your insurance company ahead of time so there are no surprises. Our billing team is also happy to help answer questions.
More Involved Concerns
Complex concerns sometimes need their own dedicated appointment. If something comes up that needs more time and attention, we may ask you to schedule a follow-up so we can give it the focus it deserves.
Recommended Well-Visit Schedule
Additional vaccines may be recommended if your child is behind on their schedule.
