Attention: Families Who Have GNP for Their Medical Group
You have likely been notified that Greater Newport Physician (GNP) Medical group IPA, who your children are assigned to, will be terminating their contracts with all Pediatricians including Los Alamitos Pediatrics as of December 31, 2024. We realize the situation can be confusing to many families, so we wanted to provide updates and guidance as we have them. Please see below for common questions and answers.
1) You can switch to a PPO plan – we accept all major PPO plans.
2) You can stay on an HMO plan – with your same insurance carrier, select Optum as your IPA/medical group and choose one of our pediatricians at Los Alamitos Pediatrics as your child’s PCP.
EXCEPTION – BLUE SHILED TRIO PLAN will not have Optum as the option for medical group, so you will either have to switch to a PPO plan or change to a different Blue Shield Plan or insurance carrier that has Optum as an option.

Majority of the specialists contracted with GNP will be contracted with Optum. We just need to re-do the referrals once you switch over to Optum. Please check with your specialists’ office to confirm.
We are contracted with GNP until 12/31/24. All our physicians at Los Alamitos Pediatrics have now been credentialed with Optum, so once the system updates, you will be able to make the switch.
